Centri 251Screening foods and beverages for butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) using automated headspace–trap GC–MS
This study shows that headspace samples acquired on the new Centri® automated multi-mode sampling and concentration system for gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) can be used to screen food and beverages for trace-level additives. A breakfast cereal and a tea infusion were investigated, and the antioxidant BHT detected in both samples at the ng/g level, along with a range of aroma compounds.

Centri 262 Comprehensive VOC profiling of meat using dynamic headspace and automated TD–GC–MS analysis
This study shows that data acquired using the Centri® automated multi-mode sampling and preconcentration system for gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) can be used to generate useful insights into the aroma profiles of foods. In the example investigated, the dynamic headspace profiles of two cuts of lean steak were sampled at elevated temperature onto sorbent tubes, with subsequent preconcentration on Centri. Over 140 VOCs and SVOCs from a variety of chemical classes were identified, with the detection of a range of sulfur species demonstrating the inertness of the Centri flowpath and the use of optimised sorbent tubes and desorption conditions.

Centri 261 Enhanced aroma profiling of vodka using automated immersive high-capacity sorptive extraction with GC–MS
This study shows the advantages of immersive sorptive extraction, using high-capacity HiSorb probes, for the gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis of a wide range of aroma compounds in vodka. Key benefits include full automation on the Centri multi-mode sampling and concentration system, re-collection for repeat analysis of a single sample under different conditions, and selective purging of ethanol.
